The inspiration behind the flower-animal motif

Reana: Bonita came to Erika Herzig from a Spanish animal shelter more than 17 years ago – and she not only enriched her life, she touched many other people too. She was a special character, the kind you do not forget quickly: proud, attentive, independent and at the same time deeply connected to the people around her.

Tabby cats like Bonita are said to be curious, adventurous and independent – qualities she embodied with full dignity. The yellow iris on her head is not only one of my favourite flowers, it is also a strong symbol: it stands for friendship, wisdom, messages and deep relationships. In Greek mythology the goddess Iris was the messenger between heaven and earth – and somehow that suits Bonita.

For me this motif is a quiet remembrance of a wonderful animal that lives on – in memory, and now also as part of my flower-animal collection.
