In the hushed setting of an Alpine fine-dining restaurant, the friends and staff of celebrity chef Georg Menninger see in the New Year — and the evening ends in tragedy. «Mord nach Rezept» (German for «Murder by recipe») is a murder mystery dinner by Culinario Mortale in which you play a suspect and try to solve Menninger’s killing.
The story
Georg Menninger, celebrated chef and restaurant owner, invites his family and staff to a private New Year’s Eve party. It was to be his last great night as a working chef, the one where he announced his retirement and his successor. At midnight he is found dead on the terrace. Now you have to find out who carried out this murderous plan «by the recipe».
Number of players
- 7 players — 4 female and 3 male roles
- 6 players — 4 female and 2 male roles
- 5 players — 3 female and 2 male roles
Male roles can of course be played by women and the other way round.
Costume ideas
Optional, but it sets the tone. A few pointers:
- Elegant evening wear, as for an exclusive dinner out
- Kitchen whites for the chef roles, with apron and toque
Menu suggestion
A refined menu suits the Menninger restaurant. The game suggests:
- Starter — caviar blinis or scallops on a bed of celeriac
- Main course — saddle of venison in a nut crust with bread dumplings and red wine sauce, or carrot and parsley gnocchi with chilli cheese sauce
- Dessert — baked apple tiramisu or panna cotta on raspberry coulis
